K nown as one of the wealthiest men of his time, Watson was often called “the world’s greatest salesman”. As CEO and chairman of International Business Machines (IBM) he helped pioneer the development of computing and accounting technology used today by industry, business, government and science. Watson was the driving force behind the company from 1914 to 1956 and was responsible for it’s growth into an international authority. He is also credited with creating IBM’s unique business culture and management style which included three corporate principals: “respect for the individual”, “the best customer service”, and “the pursuit of excellence”.
